Curtis Jordan is a Lubbock local, born and raised in the great state of Texas. After playing in the NFL as a defensive back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins, Curtis retired from football in 1986 and opened several restaurants. Curtis immediately knew that the food and service industry was for him and created a couple of staple restaurants (Teddy Jack’s Hub City Grill and Cujo’s Sports Bar) in the Lubbock area!
In addition to serving the community with incredible food and a great atmosphere, Curtis Jordan also helps with fundraising efforts for local causes. Just one example of his community involvement includes fundraising for Luke Siegel. Last summer, 9-year-old Luke Siegel was in a golfing accident and suffered life-threatening injuries.
The golf cart Luke was riding in flipped over and he was rushed to University Medical Center, where he went into cardiac arrest. While doctors were optimistic, the road to recovery was not easy. Luke suffered from brain damage, a collapsed lung and complications with his left eye. In an effort to support the family, the community pooled together monetary donations through gofundme.com.
When Curtis Jordan heard about the incident, he immediately presented the Siegel family with a $5,000 check. “It was such a tragedy and we just felt like it was one of those things…that it was local people, local family, a great family. And we felt like, you know, we look at Lubbock as our family too in the community,” Jordan said. After multiple operations and six months in the hospital, Luke was brought home and is continuing his path to recovery through speech, occupational and physical therapy.
In addition to donating to local causes, Curtis Jordan and Cujo’s Sports Bar & Grill is also helping to raise money for the Lupus Foundation of America. Curtis Jordan’s son, Matthew, contracted Lupus approximately 2 years ago and is currently managing this lifelong battle. Because of this personal connection to the disease, Curtis Jordan has made strides to support Lupus and further educate the community.
